Chief Growth & Digital Transformation Officer

Rich Syme serves as the Chief Growth & Digital Transformation Officer at America First Credit Union, the nation’s sixth-largest credit union in terms of membership with assets over $11 billion.

With a passion for serving members efficiently and in the way they want to be served, Syme has continued to push innovation in each area of the credit union.  Syme conducted the first home banking transaction at the credit union internet banking transaction at the credit union in 1996, first electronic bill pay transaction in 1998 and first mobile payment in 2001. Under Syme’s direction, America First continues to be a leader in the technology space, providing members the latest in products and services and improving their financial lives. America First was the second credit union to launch Apple Pay and boasts such successful products as Card Guard, a revolutionary security tool which protects members and enables them the power to control when and how cards are used.

Active in the credit union movement, Syme serves as board chairman for the Member Loyalty Group, a credit union service organization focusing on member service quality.  He was a member of the first Filene i3 class, which fosters the development of new ideas and innovations for credit unions. Syme is a graduate of Western Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Management School, where he served as class president and was received the Charles M. Clark Memorial Award, an award given by fellow classmates to a student who represents high moral character, credit union dedication and academic achievement.

An exemplary leader with 35-years of service, who embodies the credit union philosophy of people helping people, Syme has served on the city parks and recreation committee. With a passion for community giving, he has coached youth sports for the past 36 years and in 2015 received a special volunteer recognition award from President Obama.

Syme graduated from Weber State University with a BA in Accounting and is a certified public accountant.
