America First Credit Union partnered with Make-A-Wish Nevada and Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball to support the annual “Swish for a Wish” campaign, helping raise funds to grant life-changing wishes for children facing critical illnesses.
During Nevada’s matchup against the New Mexico Lobos men’s basketball on Feb. 24 at Lawlor Events Center in Reno, America First Credit Union presented a $10,000 donation to Make-A-Wish Nevada as part of the campaign. America First has supported the initiative annually since 2021.
“Swish for a Wish” encourages fans, businesses, and members of the community to support wish-granting efforts by pledging donations based on the number of free throws made by the Wolf Pack during the season. Supporters can also participate by making a one-time donation. QR codes placed throughout America First branches in northern Nevada and displayed during the game made it easy for fans to contribute.
The campaign has continued to grow each year. During the 2021–22 season, more than $20,000 was raised, followed by $21,000 in the 2022–23 season. Most recently, the initiative generated more than $33,000 in donations during the 2024–25 season to support Make-A-Wish Nevada. This year’s goal is to reach $40,000, helping grant life-changing wishes for children across the state.
One of the most meaningful moments of the evening came when fans met Maximilian “Max” Adams, a young wish recipient who was presented on-court with his dream trip to Hawaii during the game. Max was diagnosed with leukemia in 2024 and has endured an intense medical journey that includes daily chemotherapy and weekly lumbar injections. This has left him unable to work without difficulty.
Max’s wish is to experience the beach, water, and dinosaurs.. He will get to experience all three with his family during his special trip to Hawaii that will include a Jurassic Park tour.
America First Credit Union representative, Tyler Metzel, manager of Corporate Partnerships, participated in the on-court check presentation alongside representatives from Make-A-Wish Nevada, highlighting America First’s community partnership that helps to make these wishes possible.
Since its launch, the “Swish for a Wish” campaign has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for children across Nevada, demonstrating how sports, community organizations, and local supporters can come together to create hope and unforgettable experiences for families facing difficult circumstances.
